Βρίσκεται σε μία καταπράσινη κοιλάδα με άφθονα πηγαία νερά. Απέχει 40 χιλιόμετρα από την πόλη και το αεροδρόμιο του Ηρακλείου (45 λεπτά με το αυτοκίνητο), 20 χιλιόμετρα από την παραλία της Χερσονήσου (25 λεπτά με το αυτοκίνητο) και 15 χιλιόμετρα από το οροπέδιο Λασιθίου (30 λεπτά με το αυτοκίνητο). Μπορεί να φιλοξενήσει μέχρι 6 άτομα και είναι κατάλληλο για οικογένειες, ζευγάρια και παρέες φίλων.
Το χωριό
Το χωριό αποτελείται από δυο μικρούς οικισμούς, την Κάτω Κερά και την Απάνω Κερά. Έλαβε την ονομασία του από το μοναστήρι της Παναγίας της Κεράς ή Καρδιώτισσας, το οποίο βρίσκεται στα βόρεια του οικισμού. Η μονή της Καρδιώτισσας είναι ένα ιστορικό και εκκλησιαστικό μνημείο, από τα σημαντικότερα μοναστηριακά συγκροτήματα της Κρήτης. Μέσα από το χωριό ξεκινάει το φαράγγι της Εμπασάς που αποτελεί περιπατητικό μονοπάτι που ενώνει την Κερά με τις Γωνιές και το οποίο διαρρέει ο ομώνυμος καταρράκτης. Η θέα από το σημείο του καταρράκτη εντυπωσιάζει τον επισκέπτη.
